The city began a public process to develop a master plan for each city park in 2003. Master plans are 15-20 year plans, which provide a vision and direction for amenities and facilities that will remain or be added to parks based on the public input. Master plans have been approved by the City Council for 22 of the 23 city parks in Farmington.
New amenities added to the parks depend on the level of funding available. Some parks have new amenities and facilities constructed that were identified in the original master plan. The intent of creating the master plans is not to create a plan that remains in place forever but rather a plan with a seven to eight year review process; to make sure the amenities that have been constructed in parks and/or new amenities not yet constructed are consistent with the needs of the public.
