The 2040 Parks and Recreation Master Plan is a planning document that was created by and for city residents. It was created due to the Metropolitan Council’s requirement for city’s to update their Comprehensive Plans every 10 years. As a result, the city’s 2020 Park and Recreation Master Plan was updated to reflect the growth of the city’s park system, trails, recreational programs, and recreational facilities. The 2040 Park and Recreation Master Plan is part of an overall city Comprehensive Plan that was approved by the City Council early in 2019, after the city’s Parks and Recreation Commission, Planning Commission, and Metropolitan Council approval. The city has begun implementing the policies and strategies set forth in the 2040 Park and Recreation Master Plan.
