Trees and Boulevards
Trees provide Farmington with countless benefits. To help ensure a
healthy community forest the city has established
guidelines for maintaining trees on all
publicly owned properties.
Boulevards are city owned properties next to any public
street. The city maintains all shrubs and trees in boulevards or overhanging all streets or other public property.
Boulevard Tree Pruning and Removal
Boulevard trees are routinely pruned by the city to remove broken or dead limbs, to maintain structure, and for pedestrian and vehicle clearance. The city schedules routine pruning during dormant months (winter and early spring); this is the best time to trim because of the low risk of spreading tree insects and diseases.
The city also removes dead, dying and hazardous boulevard
trees. Attempts are made to notify property owners on the adjoining lot
in advance of this action. Residents are not assessed for pruning or
removal of boulevard trees.
Please fill out the Farmington Fix if a publicly owned tree has dead or hazardous branch(es) or is dead, dying or you believe to be a hazard.
The city does not dispose
of boulevard tree limbs intentionally removed by residents or tree limbs
from private property.
Please review the yard waste disposal options.
The City of Farmington participates in Tree City USA Program and is committed to maintaining a healthy and attractive community forest.
