Fall fire hydrant flushing starts Monday

Heads up - Public works crews will begin fall fire hydrant flushing on Monday, Oct. 4! Naturally occurring elements and minerals can settle in the water lines and solidify potentially impacting the operation of the system. Hydrant flushing moves water through the water lines at a fast rate to clean the lines and clear stagnant water at dead end lines.
If discolored water is present, residents may correct the problem by running an outside faucet (without a hose attached) or cold water faucets inside until the water runs clear. Residents are also encouraged to check the color of their water prior to doing laundry. Discolored water may stain clothes, particularly whites.
We will be sending out daily reminders of where crews will be, but keep in mind, the water system is all connected. Your home may see an impact one day before or one day after crews are in your neighborhood. Find more information about the process, what to do if you have rusty laundry, and view the general hydrant flushing map here.
