City Offers Residents Discount EAB Treatment Pricing

Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) has been detected in Dakota County. As a property owner, it is important to identify if you have ash trees on your property, look for signs of EAB, and contact a certified arborist to evaluate treatment options. The city of Farmington has developed an inventory of trees on public property. It is estimated that 44% of city boulevard trees are ash trees.

Farmington City Council adopted an EAB Management Plan this spring. The coordinated plan includes two approaches for public ash trees that include the removal of boulevard ash trees that are rated in poor condition and the injection of an insecticide targeted at the beetle larva on public trees in good to fair condition and over 15" in diameter. The plan also calls for education and public outreach including offering the treatment program for treating trees on private property.

The city of Farmington has contracted with YTS Companies, a professional tree care service, to provide EAB an injection treatment for ash trees on public property. Reduced pricing will be available to Farmington residents for treatment of ash trees on private property. Residents will be responsible for the full cost of these treatments.

Residents interested in scheduling treatment for their ash trees should contact YTS Companies at 612-331-1133 for pricing and scheduling (mention the Farmington program). The contracted prices are valid through the end of the 2017 season. Ash tree injection treatments are recommended to be scheduled between June 1 and September 30 when EAB larvae are most active.
